John has worked as a structural engineer in the Washington, DC metropolitan area since 1982.He is an expert in forensic and investigative engineering, and has performed over two thousand structural consultations, investigations and condition assessments of commercial and residential buildings. He has directed investigative teams (which, in addition to structural engineers, have included architects, geotechnical engineers, civil engineers, surveyors, cost estimators and other experts) for local projects, and has served as the structural expert on other investigative and design teams, and for litigation-related services.

In 1986 he began to focus primarily on smaller projects, both residential and commercial.In 1990, he formed his own structural engineering firm, Structural Solutions, to serve this marketplace, and which continues to serve commercial clients today. Due to the overwhelming demand for residential consulting services, in 1999 John founded Residential Engineering Solutions which specializes in problem solving for residential structures. He is currently licensed in the Washington DC, Maryland, and Virginia.

John graduated from Virginia Tech in 1982 and is a loyal "Hokie". In his free time he enjoys cycling, outdoor activities, traveling to different places and reading.
